Welcome to the Senior Home Safety Specialist™ certification course offered by Age Safe America, LLC since 2017. This latest update was compiled by Live Easy Inc. in collaboration with Canadian experts in the field of senior home safety and accessibility.
The concerns about the safety of our older adult citizens is universal in nature. We have trained professionals throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe and the Middle East. The course material offered here is also based on best practices for a holistic look at senior safety. From fire safety and identity theft to an in-depth evaluation of the home environment, the course will provide a solid foundation and understanding of the importance of fall risk hazard identification and mitigation and many other topics.
Approximately one-third of adults age 65 years or older fall in their home each year, resulting in injury, long-term disability and premature loss of independence. Falls account for 85% of seniors’ injury-related hospitalizations, making this the leading cause of injury-related admissions for seniors. The average Canadian senior had to stay in hospital 10 days longer for falls than for any other cause. Falls are associated with over 1/3 of admissions to long-term care facilities after being released from the hospital. Apart from personal suffering, loss of independence and lower quality of life, the costs of seniors’ injuries to the health system are enormous – approximately $3.4 billion annually is spent on direct health care costs. (approx. 6 million Canadians over 65 as of July 2016) In an effort to help reduce and prevent falls and their associated costs Age Safe® Canada offers the Senior Home Safety Specialist™ course.
The Senior Home Safety Specialist course empowers professionals with actionable ways to better help educate clients, older adults and their family members on the serious issues of home safety, fall prevention, financial exploitation and personal safety. This comprehensive 5-hour self-paced audio/video course offers the only certificate of its kind to individuals within the senior services industry. Upon successfully completing the entire course, you will receive an attractive Certificate along with a digital copy of the Senior Home Safety Specialist™ emblem for use on your social sites and marketing materials.
